A First-Timer's Day in El Paso

Updated 2026-09-01

If you only have one day, don't try to cover everything. El Paso stretches around the Franklin Mountains. Choose a few nearby stops rather than rushing between districts.

Morning: the downtown

Start at San Jacinto Plaza for a downtown stroll. Carry water and sun protection even on a short outing.

Midday: historic downtown

Head to El Paso Street for lunch and a slow walk. It's the most walkable stretch in the city and where the independent shops are concentrated.

Evening: east side and golden hour

Scenic Drive offers mountain and city views. Check access and use designated overlooks.

One downtown stop, one mountain viewpoint, and dinner wherever you ended up. Save the rest for a second visit.
